ISU Horton Fieldhouse Natatorium - Normal, IL

Picture
Our primary training facility is Horton Fieldhouse Pool (located at the west end of the Horton complex) on the campus of Illinois State University.

The facility includes (2) 1 Meter Boards (with spotting harness), (1) 3 Meter Board, 1 dryboard (with spotting harness), Trampoline (with spotting harness), and TiVo Video Equipment for video analysis.

TiVo Video Equipment—this equipment is used to give the divers instant video feedback during the practice session. A live video feed is run to the Tivo box allowing us to show that video on a time delay on a large TV. This enables divers time to get out of the pool, walk over to the TV and see what their dive looked like. Often coaches will go over and show them in slow motion the positives as well as necessary corrections for the dive.

Trampoline - Our goliath size trampoline is a great tool for divers to work on form, body mechanics and learning new skills. Add to that the spotting harness and it becomes the prefect dry-land equipment for safely learning flips and twists.

Dry-Land Board - On our pool deck is a dry-board with a crash mat. Divers can work on their hurdles, jumps and flips without having all the tedious drying off after each dive.

Movable "Bubbler" sparger system - One of a diver's biggest fears in learning new dives is losing where they are in the air and smacking the water. With our "Bubbler" we create an air cushion on top of the water that breaks the water surface tension and provides a soft landing area for the diver. So even if they do land flat they don't get the painful smack that would otherwise happen. We are the only Dive program south of Chicago that has this extremely effective learning tool.

Spotting Harnesses - We have 3 spotting harnesses. One over our Trampoline, one on the dry-board and over a 1 meter diving board. This is a belt worn around the waist of the diver attached to a rope and pulley system that the coaches use to help divers spin and keep them from landing wrong at the end of the dive. Again this is another tool we have to help divers progress faster with an added level of safety.

COMING SOON!

Our first ever expansion is happening in Peoria at the Central Park Pool.

We are VERY excited to announce that we are partnering with P.A.W.W. at Central Park Pool to open a Redbird Diving Club Satellite!!

We are working closely with P.A.W.W. and PND to bring this wonderful facility back to it’s glory!! We are in the process of replacing boards and getting the 3-Meter up to “snuff”. Over time we will be adding in Dryland Equipment to really complete the transformation!!
